 Prominent Figures Grace Ceremonial Launching of Student Youth Democracy Group in Ghana

ACCRA, GHANA (June 25, 2004) – Students and leaders of organizations worldwide gathered in a ceremony to launch the Student World Assembly’s newest chapter in Ghana. With over 13,000 current members in the world, the new chapter marked an important step towards the organization’s goal of promoting global democracy.
 

Master of Ceremony and Regional Representative Kwame Anane Frempong explained the origins and objectives of the Student World Assembly: “Every human being is a part of the whole, and hence, we all owe allegiance to the human society as a whole. We should encourage others to perceive the world as one entity and the people as world citizens”.
 

Regional Director for the SWA-Ghana Section, read the goodwill message on behalf of SWA founder Paul Reynault. He commended Bossman Yiadom Boakye, Stephen Kwaw and Kwame Anane Frempong for their dedication and commitment in the establishment of SWA-Ghana, pointing out “that there are more student members in Ghana than any other country”.
 

Other prominent figures present included: The Country Director of Amnesty International of Ghana, Mr. P.F.Y Mc Aprako, President of the National Union of Ghana Students Mr. Kenneth Abotsi, Country Representative of the United Nations Volunteers Mr. Joseph Oji, and representatives from the Minister of State in Charge of Education, Youth and Sports. All expressed their enthusiasm, support and well wishes for a “much-needed” organization.
 

16 institutions from all over Ghana, including the University of Ghana and the Harvard School of International Marketing participated in the ceremonial launching. Nation-wide newspapers the Ghanaian Voice and the Ghana News Agency covered the event, in addition to the other 22 youth employment summit invited Press Houses.

The Student World Assembly is a non-governmental, non partisan organization created to represent and empower students globally.  It provides resources, forums, and other tools through which students can educate themselves about the issues affecting humanity, discuss these issues with their peers from around the world, and translate their views and ideas for addressing these issues into meaningful action.
