On Monday March 7th, the SWA University of Ottawa Chapter has invited an American soldier as a guest speaker on the topic of the Iraq War Resisters. This event was prompted by the refusal of several American soldiers to participate in the war in Iraq, and, as a result, fled to Canada in protest.

The Canadian government has not yet decided what action to take, as the United States is requesting the soldiers’ return. The American soldier will speak on his own experience in this situation. Also, a professor will give a talk on the impact this situation may have on Canada/US relations if Canada decides not to grant refugee status to these soldiers.
