On November 13, 2004, the Kwame Nkrumah University of
Science and Technology (KNUST) Chapter in Kumasi, Ghana,
held its first general meeting. Kwame Anane Frempong, Regional
Representative for SWA Ghana, gave a brief welcome to the
attendees, stressing the importance of active participation
in SWA, especially in the online discussion forums.
Bright Essilfie Kumi, a renowned student speaker and youth
activist known for his high intellectual analysis and philosophy,
spoke on how students can create wealth for themselves in
order to help build up their local communities. World citizen
Sammy Abbey Jacobs spoke on the issue of globalization and
global citizenship, and why it must be pursued. He made
reference to the present crisis in Darfur encouraging members
to come together with one universal voice.
He offered thoughts on the HIV/AIDS pandemic as well,
and how students could prevent getting infection and help
others to avoid it. Members of the new KNUST Chapter look
forward to coordinating efforts to bring about positive
change for Africa and for the global community.
