The Kick-off Event of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science
and Technology Chapter (KNUST) took place on February 26,
2005. The Vibrants, an acapella group on campus, began the
program with a musical interlude.
The chairman shared
his honor and enthusiasm to champion this course of democracy.
He called on the media, business communities, and non-governmental
bodies to come together to support this most important endeavor.
Following this was the chapter president's inaugural speech,
in which he appealed to his fellow youth to help bring about
positive change in the greater society by first making positive
changes in their own lives.
The chapter’s faculty advisor spoke about its recent
activities, also making reference to the current world situation,
especially the emerging Togo issue and urged the appropriate
bodies to take immediate action in resolving the issues.
Students from the senior secondary schools were invited
to observe the launching. Representatives from Technology
Secondary School and Opoku Ware Secondary School also attended.
Junior chapters have been established in Technology Secondary
School, Opoku Ware Secondary School, and Saint Monica's
Girls Secondary School. Following the ceremony, Kwame and
the chapter officers talked with the younger students regarding
their role in SWA.
Leading up to this event a “Clean Up” exercise
was arranged with the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).
Simeone Azoska, Abena Mensima Quarm and Daniel Boateng spoke
on Focus Fm, a campus radio station, about the history of
SWA both in Ghana and globally. In addition to Focus FM,
other media houses were invited to the event, including
Ghana Broadcasting cooperation, TV3 network, Kessben Fm,
Spirit Fm and Luv Fm.
