LaGuardia Students Establish the First Student World Assembly
Chapter at a Community College
by
Karmen Varjabedian
LaGuardia
Community College’s International Program signed an agreement
with Mr. Paul Raynault, president of the Raynault Foundation and
the founder of the Student World Assembly (SWA), on April 26,
2004 to establish the first SWA chapter at a community college.
SWA provides an opportunity for students around the world to experience
democracy, campaigning and representation through use of the Internet.
Mr. Paul Raynault envisions the SWA as a global community that
represents the voice of individuals, regardless of where they
are from.
LaGuardia
students began their participation by attending the SWA kick-off
campaign on March 26, 2004 at the United Nations Church Center.
Nine LaGuardia students and alumni joined students from other
colleges at this event to prepare for the first annual Student
World Assembly Convention.
| LaGuardia
Community College was named one of the Top 3 large community
colleges in the U.S. by the Community College Survey of Student
Engagement, which polled students across the country. |
