Resolutions Approved at the July 18-24, 2004 International Convention

I. Global Environmental Sustainability

The Student World Assembly Supports the Creation and Dissemination of Environmental Education, Especially Through Utilizing the Capacities of SWA Chapters.

Strategies for Implementation (Ideas):

1. Monitoring the environment, through SWA chapters.

2. Disseminating information about environmental issues and disasters through online discussion forums.

3. Chapters will be examples of sustainability through an ethical consumer policy; chapters will promote sustainability in their college or university; and additionally in their community.

4. Work with and support businesses that have integrated sustainability into their business model.

5. Chapters will assist colleges to make the necessary changes toward achieving sustainability.

6. Use online discussion forum to keep each other informed on environmental changes in their countries.

7. Local chapters should work with existing programs that promote the sustainability of the environment.

8. The SWA chapters should be involved in clean up campaigns working toward environmental sustainability.

9. Promote business sustainability.

10. SWA must recycle all paper.

11. SWA chapters should get involved in direct education, including going into schools.

12. Host or participate in exhibitions (such as earth day).

13. Promote boycotts, when action is required, against entities that cause environmental degradation.

14. Local chapters should host public lectures and workshops on environmental issues primarily targeting the industrial sector.

15. Publish our results.

II. War
To help educate all individuals of the world, especially children, through local Student World Assembly Chapters, on the causes and consequences of armed conflict (domestic or international) in a collective effort of prevention; through:

a. Coordinated activities of the SWA chapters.
b. Wide utilization of the media.

Strategies for Implementation:

1. Monitoring and deliberating on contemporary armed conflicts; publish and disseminate this info.
2. Promote grassroots conflict resolution skills.
3. Support monitoring of armed conflicts.
4. Promote progressive problem solving to prevent future conflicts from occurring.
