Global Initiatives and Outreach Internship Information

Interns will work directly with their Team Coordinators and other staff, and are responsible for increasing awareness of and commitment to the Student World Assembly?s mission. Interns will work among a broad range of audiences, most particularly opinion leaders, educators, policy makers, and the general membership. Internships are unpaid but maybe done for academic credit or on a volunteer basis. A candidate must be an undergraduate student; a graduate student; or have graduated from college within twelve months at the beginning of the internship. Interns are expected to work between 15-20 hours a week. Internships are offered during the Summer, Fall, and Winter/Spring semesters. Interns may receive academic credit if an agreement is made between the SWA and the intern's college or university.

Required Skills:

Knowledge of MS Office products, internet navigation; ability to organize administrative projects; demonstrate clear and effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to meet deadlines and maintain a flexible schedule; strong diplomatic skills in dealing with people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds; awareness of and sensitivity to a variety of cultural perspectives; awareness of prominent global issues. If applying for an internship in translation the applicant must be fluent in English and be able to translate into one or more of the following languages: French, Spanish, Arabic, Farsi, Russian, Hindi, Mandarin, Urdu, Italian, Portuguese or Japanese.

Primary Responsibilities:

Each Intern will be responsible for one or more of the following tasks depending on their abilities:
  • Creating, editing, and proofreading official documents and/or correspondences
  • Creating new SWA outreach material and updating material as needed
  • Assisting in managing current contacts and identifying new outreach opportunities
  • Maintaining newsroom website content
  • Writing and issuing SWA monthly updates, press releases, media advisories, and action alerts for past and upcoming SWA events
  • Fostering relationships with Media and organizations that offer their services and support
  • Updating SWA video content on YouTube.com
  • Developing and maintaining the FAQ for the website
  • Submitting write-ups for events and activities
  • Assisting in collaboration and design of marketing tools
  • Translating documents from English into one or more of the languages listed above.
  • Attending SWA events
